Blog #56: Varnishing/Mandolin Camp North

Hello all…A bit windy here in upstate, but the grass is now green and the crab apple tree outside my workshop is beginning to show some blooms..I look forward to warmer weather ahead.  In shop, I’m applying the sealer, which is the first coat in the varnishing process.

The grain will rise, and so I have to sand it down.  Next, I re-apply until everything is smooth.

Now, the violin is smooth and ready for color…

I will begin the color tomorrow now that all is prepared and ready.  Stay tuned….

I also wanted to mention that I am getting ready to go to Mandolin Camp North.
The camp is in Charlton, Mass. from April 13-15.  Feel free to check out the website above.

I will have “the three brothers” mandolins along with me…Look forward to visiting with you all at the camp.  It should be a great weekend!

Until next time,
